  • Fuel System Question

I have a 2003 XL700. At times, it starts very easily, even after setting overnight. Most times it must be choked heavily to start, even if it sets for only a few minutes between runs.

I don't totally understand the fuel system, but it appears that the carbs are losing their prime. The fuel pumps have just been rebuilt.

Does the entire fuel system operate under pressure? If so, what is the most likely culprit in pressure/prime loss? Compression is good 128#.

    Thank you in advance.

    Re: Fuel System Question

The tank has check valves and if they are not working you will loose prime, it has to hold 1.5 lbs of pressure. Does the tank hold pressure?, unscrew the cap after it sits in the sun see if the cap is under pressure if not find the check valves, they are one way valves if you can blow through both sides then replace them.
