Piston washers?

Quick question....I have a yamaha WVT1100. I am replacing the pistons and I noticed in my shop manual it shows a washer on each side of the roller small end roller bearing. I have two motors and neither one of them had washers and the set of pistons I ordered also did not come with any. Are these washers required???

Many aftermarket piston sets donot require the washers.
