Starter kicks in first time and cranks but if you let off the start button and try again you get nothing. remove fuse and replace and it will crank until you let off. this mornin i came in and tried and the starter stayed ingaged until i disconnected battery. havent seen display working the whole time. replaced solenoid to no avail. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1999 yamaha gp 1200 start issues
How old is the starter itself. If it's the original or over 5-7 years old, it's probably due for a new one. Nice try with the solenoid. I would
have started there also. FYI, you can always bypass the solenoid for testing purposes.

Starter is working fine. I believe this is something electrical. Like the cdi or display but not too sure. Didnt want to just replace parts as that can get expensive and i dont generally stock those parts. helpLast edited by branden howland; 08-06-2012, 04:13 PM.

Re: 1999 yamaha gp 1200 start issues
Thanx for the reply! Yea Thats what im leaning toward but i wanted to be sure. Does the cdi control the display? Or will the display burn the cdi out if it is bad? Just dont want to chase my tail on this issue. CDI units are not cheap. Your time and help are greatly appreciated.
thanks, Branden Howland
