1999 yamaha gp 1200 start issues

working on a 1997 gp 1200. what causes the ski to keep cranking even after letting off the start button? It also will crank and when you let off and try to again you get nothing. pull the fuse and reinstall and it will crank. i have two skis here doing the same thing. replaced solenoid but it did not fix anything. any suggestions?
