  • waveblaster breaking up at half throttle?

hey whats up everyone. Finally got this thing in the water. IT FLOATS!! haha. it was in an accident a few yrs back and has been a project ever since. taking the back seat to other projects for a while as well. but ran it today :)

First i have a few questions that i cant seem to find answers.
-on the carbs, which needle is the high speed and low speed? i cant find this answer anywhere! lol
-being i didnt know which one was which, i set to 1 1/2 and 1. then ran it, and switched screw positions to see if any different. NOPE
-also what does this pop off pressure do?
-what should my idle screw be set to. I dont have a tach..I know i should use it when tuning. trying to find one for cheap.

ski used to run great with zero issues and not a single part was changed. meaning, i didnt change any jets, heads or anything.

Well, i got the ski to run, at half throttle its breaking up pretty bad. almost sounds like its misfiring and being held back. BUT...If i go full throttle then it runs great. smooth and power is there. Ive played with the screws all day long today. either it runs like this. or its breaking up through whole range.

Also, it bogs down hard when turning left. like a hard left. I cant whip the ski. just bogs down.

i dont remember what size jets are in there. im taking carbs apart tomorrow being its gonna storm.

So please any help on carb adjustments would be great. ive read and keep reading over the carb tips in these forums but cant seem to find an answer to my questions.

-Carbs were redone years ago, but only had maybe 4 rides on rebuilt carbs. i did winterize the motor and it was always garage kept, i know stuff can still cause a blockage through years of sitting.(even though covered and stored) i will clean tomorrow.

I just find it weird that im having a mid range issue with top end being ok.

oh i forgot to mention that the screw settings that made it work where top end was fine but bogging in mid range was

    top screw- 1/2-3/4 turn
    bottom screw-1/4-1/2 turn

High is closest to the air box, low is closest to the base of the carb. Pop off is at what psi does it take to let fuel enter into the carb body, Idle screw gets set after the carb is tuned and runs properly. Pop-off is most likely your issue

ok great. Now next question is, can i test pop off with carbs installed?? Im seeing that it is better to go to the fuel filter inlet on carb but hard to find a fitting for this.

And SBT has said that you can go through the fuel inlet line and get accurate readings.

So can i go through the fuel inlet line to get my pop off pressure for my carbs?

Yes you can and you will have to remove the carbs to do the test.

ok. first tests i have pop off pressure at 20psi and it just bleeds off there.

i stretched the spring and got a pop off pressure of 60psi. hahaha.
I know this isnt a fix. just need it to run good for 1 day and then rebuilding the carbs anyway.

If the pressure is too high what issues will i have??
              is 60 psi too high??

I know im looking to get 50psi for pop off pressure, correct?
