  • 2004 XLT 3 Seater Tamper Caps Mikuni BN 44s

D Plate Installed. Carburators clogged. Rebuilt the same. Removed tamper caps from Mikuni BN 44 to open low end needle and changed pop off to 42, hesitation gone but loads up mid range. Changed pop off to 52 1 turn on low .75 on high as specified by mikuni. I pressurised the fuel tank to get fuel to carbs before installing exhaust so I could see if the fuel injector was working. Well now I have a fuel leak which I assume is from the low needle cavity. No one mentioned the caps have to be replaced since the needle is facing to the bilge.
Conclusion: The caps have to be reinstall or else risk the fact of catching on fire, in order to stop the leak. So carbs have to come off again before I try the 52 psi pop off. Has anyone figure out a way to adjust the low needles while engine runs.....don't think so, not with all that fuel leaking out the same. So its back to trial and error. Left the caps off the high side which I can see from the top even if the exhaust is on. Does anyone know wha the factory pop off is for the 2004 XLT. What ever it was, it did not work with a d plate. So I am at the black spring with 1.2 needle for a pop off of 52 per carb. More to follow. Has anyone experience this problem of the fuel leak on the low end side?????

Fuel should not leak with the caps removed, maybe the needle o-rings are bad. Pop-off is more like 60 psi for the 1200.
