2000 Yamaha 1200 SUV coupling

I am in the process of disassembling my 1200 SUV motor for shipment to SBT. I need to remove the coupling and I am having a difficult time. Is the couplng threaded? is it a right hand or left hand thread? I don't have a chain wrench so I was thinking of using a 3' rod (breaker bar) in between the teeth of the coupling to turn. Should I be using heat?

The instructions online in this area are vague..

Standard thread, un-screw counter clock wise. You risk breaking the fingers using the breaker bar. We sell a coupler removal tool if you need 1.
