  • 2004 Yamaha SX230 rebuilding jet pump

    Hello Folks
I am working my 2004 Yamaha SX230. I had to rebuild the jet pumps. As I was reviewing the service manual to install the oil seals, number 12 and number 13 in the pictures, it does not give a clear description of how the seals are to be installed. It only tells which seal goes in first. My question is which way do the lips of the seals go? I have provided some photos of 4 different scenario the seals could be installed. I know the smaller seal goes in first, but does the open lip go towards the bearing or faces away from the bearing? Same concern with the larger seal. Any help would be appreciated.
The larger seal has a brown lip on the inside.

Regarding the jet pump bearing housing, should I fill the housing with oil and not pack the bearings in a synthetic marine grease?
