97 xp800 no spark

had it out on the weekend and it just shut down while idling......pulled both plugs out and there is no spark from both plugs, although i got a pretty good lifter, accidentally touched the plug while turning the engine over.....trimmed back the spark plug wire and no difference.(do i have a weak spark problem)..where do i trace the problem back from here.......i also cleaned all connections in the black box containing the starter coil and also the connections marked EC.....any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

use a multi-meter and see if you have power at the coil, also check the harness plug that goes into the stator. Check the grounds on the battery, and last but not least, pull the front cover and inspect the trigger (they are common to fail and fall off, on the 800's).

All the fuses look good?

i checked and found a 7.5amp fuse blown, changed the fuse and still no difference, not sure what this fuse was for, also unclear in the manual i have.........when you mean check the coil.....is this the two EC wires that go in and the two spark plug wires that go out...........i also checked the connector that is in the front of the engine, is this the stator?, and how hard is it to remove and check further???

i did some further reading and found on the print that the 7.5amp fuse is for the vts, which hasn't worked since i bought the seadoo, and it has run fine with no troubles........can i put a digital multimeter on the EC wires and what should i normally see for voltage, and if no voltage present do i then go to the magneto and check the pickup.

You put a multimeter on the trigger wire @ the coil
