  • Spark Plug Caps

    Does anybody know if I can use NGK caps instead of the factory ones ,If so what part # would I need for a 1996 Waveraider 1100

    Yes you can but I have no idea what part # you need - just go to your local motorsports dealer, they will have some.

      Service manual (Genuine Yamaha) calls for 4-6000 ohm in the cap... Look for the same in the NGK line, be considerably cheaper than genuine Yamaha part.

      Probaly go straight to plug, no resistor, do not have radio noise to worry about.

        I think the resistor is supposed to make the spark hotter I got 5k caps from NGK for $2.63 versus $33.00 (each)from Yamaha thanks for your replys

          It's only so the CDI doesn't pickup stray interferance.

            Hotter spark will come from higher voltage coil, and wider gap.

            Resistor is resistance to flow, thats why the carbon impregnated wires on your car will not allow plug to fire if resistance gets to high.... coils on watercraft typically have solid wire core plug wires, then a cap with a resistance built in to reduce electrical interference.
